Pakistan Navy is the naval branch of the military of Pakistan. It is responsible for Pakistan's 1,046 kilometer (650 mile) coastline along the Arabian Sea and the defense of important harbors. It is a modern and highly dependable force that operates a wide range of ships ranging from cruisers to destroyers as well as submarines. Pakistan Navy day is celebrated on September 8 in commemoration of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.

Basic Training Units & Special Forces of Pakistan Navy

Naval Academy of Pakistan provides the initial training to Pakistan Navy officers. It has already given basic training to about 2000 officers of Navies of friend countries. It has Honor of training the Chief of Naval Staff of Qatar Emiri Navy and many of the high ranking officials of RSN (Royal Saudi Navy) as well as other navies in the Gulf are graduates of PNA.

The Naval Academy has also trained units of Navies of other countries around the world which includes non commissioned staff and officers.PNA gives all the training and professional information , moral, educational, mental and physical training to the subordinate officers of the Navy, so that, with time and experience, they develop into proficient Naval officers equipped with the highest ideals of loyalty, honor, courage and devotion to duty, which would be in conformity with the past Islamic history and future aspiration of the people of Pakistan.

Pakistan Navy has also a wing or unit of Special Forces more inline with marine forces of American Navy. Special Forces get special treatment, which is different from regular contingents of the Navy. Obviously perks and facilities of Special forces are better than normal officers or recruits because of the harder training they get and nature of job they have to perform.

Pakistan Navy has basic training institutes in the form of PNS Bahadur, Himalaya, Iqbal, Jauhar, Karsaz Mehran, and Rehbar, Rahnuma S t c l & m school and PN War College.

Other than Basic Traning Institutes Pakistan navy has Shore Institutes which Includes PNS Ahsan, Makran, Qasim, and Jinnah Naval Base.

Owing to the highest standards of Pakistan Navy, Officers graduated from Pakistan Navy Institutes or colleges are considered fit for any assignment around the world.

Ships & Submarines

Ships and Submarines are basic building blocks of any Navy. Pakistan Navy has also given them utmost attention. Pakistan Navy is ranked as one of he most professional and dedicated navies of the world.

In 1965 war with India Pakistan Navy’s Submarine played decisive role in winning the war, it put a halt to the operations of Indian Navy and they were ceased to their ports.

Pakistan Navy continued to induct ships and submarines to its fleet in times of peace and increased its power to fight with the enemy in war. Pakistan navy has state of the art ships and submarines, fitted with most advanced armory of the current era ,having most highly qualified professionals as their work force.

Five diesel powered submarines and 3 midget submarines, MG110 are part of the Pakistan Naval Fleet namely,

Agosta-90B
Agosta-90B classes named as (PNS/M Khalid, PNS/M Saad & PNS/M Hamza)
Agosta 70 class known as PNS/M Hashmat & PNS/M Hurmat
Daphne class (PNS/M Hangor, PNS/M Ghazi 2, PNS/M Mangro & PNS/M Shushuk) now not in operation.

All of the Pakistani Submarines have been equipped with AshMs which can be fired while in water. The three Khalid class boats can fire Exocet AshM, while the older inventory including Agostas and Daphnes have been equipped with US Harpoon AshMs. PNS/M Hamza (Agosta-90B) carries MESMA Air Independent Propulsion system, PNS/M Khalid and PNS/M Saad will be upgraded with the MESMA AIP system mentioned above in the near future. The Pakistan Navy has plans to equip Agosta-90Bs with Boeing Harpoon Block II in near future while the Agosta-90Bs are currently capable of firing Black shark torpedoes.

Pakistan is also trying to enhance its strategic strike capability (SSC) by developing naval versions of the Babar land attack cruise missile (LACM). The Babar LACM has a range of over 700 km and having the capability of using both conventional and nuclear type warheads.

Pakistan Navy is the naval force of the Pakistan Armed Forces. Its tasks are to defend coastal waters and offshore economic resources; and secure sea lines of communication and protect the merchant fleet. The Pakistan Navy is small but is highly motivated professional naval force, operationally capable of defending Pakistan coastline.

Pakistan Navy Air-arm, Aircrafts, Helicopters

More than two third of the earth is covered with water, with air all around it obviously. Fleet air arm is unique because it utilizes these inherent factors of environment for its own advantage and serves as a force multiplier and provides needed maneuverability to high officials in crunch time . The idea of Fleet Air Arm was conceptualized in early years of the 7th decade .Now by the grace of Allah the Fleet Air Arm has developed to become a highly effective and lethal force. The air arm is designed in a way to operate in all situations of naval operations ranging from surveillance, tracking and destruction of enemy units. Air arm also serves in operations other than war such as search and rescue, salvage and relief operations. PNS MEHRAN is the main operating aviation base and is located at Karachi. All of maintenance facilities, Command HQ’s, and training centers are situated in this base of MEHRAN.

In the Fleet arm all of the aviational machines like helicopters and planes are handled, opertaions of helicopters and planes are handled, maintenance and training of air crew is also carried out. Record of missiles and other weapons is maintained here and audited.

Air Crew trained at PNS Mehran is very competent and has served in many aviations of the world including UN missions. Pictures of the base can be viewed in the gallery.

The aircrafts that Air arm unit of Pakistan navy is having currently includes Atlantic, Fokker, P3C.Sea king is main weapon in the form of helicopter. Each of air crafts and helicopters are equipped with Advanced Missiles and other related weapons.

Major training facilities are Mehran Base where all training regarding to Air arm is done.
